John Ronald Scott of 1511 Williby Ave., died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008, at St. Francis hospital in Wichita. He was 75.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
The Memorial Mass for Ron Scott of Emporia will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Revs. Darren Henson and George Seuferling will be co-celebrants. Mr. Scott was cremated. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday at the church, after which the family will meet friends.
Memorial contributions to the Pat J. Bosco Achievement Leadership Scholarship at Kansas State University in Manhattan or the H. Dale Buck Animal Welfare Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, P.O. Box 175, Emporia, KS 66801.
Mr. Scott died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008, at St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita. He was 75.
He was a psychotherapist, beginning his career at Larned State Hospital in Larned. He then was director of the Mental Health Center at Great Bend and later was with the Mental Health Center of East Central Kansas in Emporia. He also worked with Catholic Charities in Emporia and had a private practice at various times. He retired in the fall of 2006. He served with the U.S. Army from June 1955 to March 1957, stationed in Arizona.
The son of Ralph and Ninan Shumate Scott, he was born Nov. 25, 1932, at Larned. He graduated from Larned High School, from Kansas State University with a bachelor’s degree in agronomy and from the University of Missouri at Columbia with a master’s degree in social work.
He married Dolores R. Srajer on June 7, 1954, at Tampa. She survives.
Mr. Scott was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a former member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Duplicate Bridge Club in Emporia and former member of the Jaycees in Larned.
He is also survived by three daughters, Pamela Kay Fillmore of Cottonwood Falls, Rebecca Jan Nottingham of Ozawkie and Debra Lynn Scott of Branson, Mo.; one son, Richard Kevin Scott of Houston, Texas; three brothers, Kenneth Scott of Newton, Richard Scott of Wichita and Daniel Scott of Winston-Salem, N.C.; four grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren. A brother, Robert Scott, died earlier.
