Floyd Jake Trester, Leroy
1934 - 2008
Floyd Jake Trester died Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, at his home in rural LeRoy. He was 73.
Mr. Trester was self-employed for many years in the sanitation business, owning and operating trash and septic services. He also worked on the construction of the John Redmond Dam and Reservoir. As a young man, he worked on the family farm and in the oil fields and later, at the Walton Foundry in Iola.
The son of Charles Burton and Lottie Vanetta Scott Trester, he was born Sept. 10, 1934, on the family farm in Allen County. He grew up in rural Allen and Anderson counties and attended rural schools.
He married Ruby May Jones on Dec. 8, 1953, at Mildred. They moved to LeRoy in the fall of 1957 and to their farm north of LeRoy in 1971.
Mr. Trester is survived by his wife; one son, Douglas Trester of Powell, Wyo.; six daughters, Debbie Hegwald of LeRoy, Diana L. Trester of Burlington, Delcie Chappuis of Wichita, Donna Godsey of Winchester, Ky., Dixie Kirkham of Syracuse, Mo., and Dawn Trester of McKinney, Texas; one brother, William John Trester of Iola; 19 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Ten siblings, Gladys Opal Cornett, Pansy (Ruth Mae Riley) Kennedy, Lloyd Ervin Meek, Hazel Craghton Knowlton, Violet Mae Hutton, Elihue Byrd “Shorty” Trester, Bert Andrew Trester, Albert Trester, Lillie Ester McCullough and Daisy Beatrice Jones, died earlier.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery near Mildred. The family will meet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
