Willdonna D. Cowan, Emporia

1918 - 2008

Willdonna D. Cowan, 89, of Emporia died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, at Newman Regional Health.
Funeral arrangements and complete obituary will be announced by Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
The funeral for former Reading resident Willdonna D. Cowan will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. The Rev. David Siler of the Reading United Methodist Church will conduct the service. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Memorial contributions to the Emporia Alzheimer’s Support Group may be sent in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 175, Emporia, KS 66801.
Mrs. Cowan, a resident of the Emporia Rehabilitation Center, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, at Newman Regional Health. She was 89.
She was a secretary for the Reading public schools in Reading for 25 years before she retired.
The daughter of Albert and Charlotte Coates Bailey, she was born Aug. 22, 1918, in Chase County. She married William E. Shields. He died at Bucklin. She married R. Price Cowan at Reading. He also died earlier.
Mrs. Cowan was a member of the Reading United Methodist Church. She was a 4-H community leader and member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by one daughter, Judy Hudson of Bloomfield, N.M.; one son, James M. Shields of Tura Beach, New South Wales, Australia; one stepdaughter, Lorna Stormont of Emporia; one stepson, Ron Cowan of Topeka; and nine grandchildren. A brother, Eugene Bailey; and a sister, Dreda DeTour, died earlier.
