David D. Hill, Emporia
1913 - 2008
David D. Hill died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008, at Newman Regional Health. He was 94.
Mr. Hill worked in farming for most of his life. He also worked at the Forbes Depot in Topeka for eight years, did crop dusting, worked with his nephew in his fencing business, helped survey for I-35, ran a local pool hall, drove a school bus and worked in many remodeling and masonry projects. He lived in and around the Melvern community for most of his life before he moved to Emporia in 2006.
The son of John and Muriel Dooty Hill, he was born Nov. 14, 1913, on the family farm east of Melvern. He married Marie White on July 19, 1938. She survives.
Mr. Hill is also survived by two daughters, Jean Lawhorn of Melvern and Davonne Hinz of Americus; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. One brother, John “King” Hill; and two sisters, Bonnie Cooper and Leah Collins, died earlier. Three siblings also died in infancy.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Melvern United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Melvern Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Feltner Funeral Home in Lyndon.
