Mickie Sue Riley, Burlington

1949 - 2008

BURLINGTON
Mickie Sue Riley died Friday, April 4, 2008, at her home in Burlington. She was 58.
Mrs. Riley and her husband, Stan Riley, owned and operated the Coffey Bowl bowling alley, which they bought from Mr. Riley’s parents, from 1970 until 1988, when they sold it to her sister and brother-in-law. She then worked in housekeeping at Coffey County Hospital for 10 years. Earlier, she worked in the Emporia area, then worked 3 1/2 years for Boeing in the Seattle area before returning to Kansas in 1970.
The daughter of Theodore A. and Vera Lee Whitehurst Germann, she was born Nov. 6, 1949, in Emporia. She grew up in Hartford and graduated from Hartford High School in 1968.
She married Stanley Robert Riley on July 5, 1969, in Hartford. He died May 9, 1998.
Mrs. Riley was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Burlington and several bowling leagues.
She is survived by one daughter, Penny Cole of Burlington; one son, Perry Riley of Independence, Mo.; five sisters, Rosann Hoskins of Burlington, Frances Burris of Hartford and Joy Sleisher, Blondell Simoneaux and Iola Mae Holmgren, all of Seattle; one brother, Larry Germann of Hutchinson; and three granddaughters.
The graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Graceland Cemetery near Burlington. The family will meet friends from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington and then proceed to the cemetery.
