Elmer R. Olson, Emporia

The funeral for Elmer R. Olson, 704 Garfield St., will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Wilson Funeral Home in Madison. The Rev. Bob Robison will conduct the service. Burial will be in Blakely Cemetery northwest of Madison. The family will meet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
The family suggests that, instead of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association and sent in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 488, Madison, KS 66860.
Mr. Olson died Thursday, April 3, 2008, at the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kan. He was 87.
He was a self-employed building contractor before he retired. He and his wife lived in Madison for many years until they moved to Emporia in 1959. He was a veteran of World War II.
The son of Elmer L. and Denzil Sumner Olson, he was born Aug. 20, 1920, in rural Eureka. He grew up in Eureka and graduated from Eureka High School in 1938.
He married Evelyn R. Turner on April 9, 1943, in Eureka. She died Feb. 3, 2007.
Mr. Olson is survived by one son, William Lee Olson of Emporia; two daughters, Gloria Jean Wilson of Shawnee and Donna Jo Schier of Fishers, Ind.; one sister, Frances June Olson of Eureka; two grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
One brother, Lee Austin Olson; and one sister, Maryann Dennison, died earlier.
