Former Americus resident Edith E. Phelan, a longtime resident of Kansas City, Mo., died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center in Overland Park.
The date and time of services will be announced by the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.

Americus native Edith E. Phelan of Kansas City, Mo., died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007, at the Overland Park Regional Medical Center. She was 93.
Miss Phelan was a secretary and bookkeeper for the Florence Crittendon Homes before she retired 18 years ago. Earlier, she taught at Lone Elm Rural High School and at Elk Falls. She taught journalism at Wamego Rural High School for several years before she moved to Kansas City, Mo.
The daughter of William John and Alpha Katherine Arnsberger Phelan, she was born June 3, 1914, in Americus. She graduated from Americus schools and from Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia with a bachelor’s degree in education.
Miss Phelan is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Two sisters, Lois Throop and Elaine Kitzenberger, died earlier.
The graveside memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Americus Cemetery at Americus. Miss Phelan was cremated. The Rev. Bud Tuxhorn of the Americus United Methodist Church will conduct the service.

Edith E. Phelan was preceded in death by two sisters, Lois Throop and Elaine Kitzenberger; and a brother, Leonard Phelan. This information was not given in the obituary published Sept. 21.
