Geraldine Louise Gilbert, Hartford

Geraldine Louise Gilbert of Hartford and formerly of New Orleans died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007, at Hartford. She was 84.
Mrs. Gilbert moved to Hartford to live with her brother in September 2005 after evacuating New Orleans because of Hurricane Katrina.
During World War II, she was a nurse in the dispensary on a Naval base in Corpus Christi, Texas. She also was a homemaker.
The daughter of Francis and Christina Beschka Hurtig, she was born Sept. 26, 1922, in Hartford. She married Joseph Charles Gilbert on March 1, 1944, at Kansas City, Kan. They moved to New Orleans in 1963. He died Sept. 24, 1997, in New Orleans.
Mrs. Gilbert was a member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church and Immaculate Heart of Mary, both of New Orleans, and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Olpe.
She was a member of the Spring Lake Home Owners Association in New Orleans.
She is survived by two daughters, Sherry Gilbert and Stephanie Schoenberger, both of New Orleans; and one brother, Francis E. Hurtig of Tucson, Ariz. A sister, Josephine D. Francis, and a brother, Anthony “Tony” Joseph Hurtig, died earlier.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hartford. The Rev. Anthony Williams of the church will be the celebrant. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
