Omer Glen Pitts, ABILENE

1918 - 2007

Former Council Grove resident Omer Glen Pitts, 89, of Abilene died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007, at the Village Manor in Abilene.
Mr. Pitts farmed in the Council Grove area and also operated heavy equipment. He retired from Newman Memorial County Hospital in Emporia.
The son of Earl and Millie Cheek Pitts, he was born June 19, 1918, at Dunlap. He married Emily Mary Kieffer on April 10, 1938, at Cottonwood Falls. She died Feb. 6, 2006.
Mr. Pitts is survived by one daughter, Rosalie Cornelius of Solomon; one son, Glen Pitts of Warrensville, S.C.; one brother, David Pitts; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Five brothers, Johnny Pitts, Tommy Pitts, Paul Pitts, Junior Pitts and Leland Pitts and one sister, Rowena Nigh, died earlier.
The funeral will at 2 p.m. Monday at the Penwell-Gabel Council Grove Chapel. The Rev. Rick Neubauer will conduct the service. Burial will be in Comisky Cemetery, southeast of Council Grove. The family will meet friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Friends also may call from noon until 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
