David W. Dixon
David W. Dixon of Emporia died early today at his home. He was 64.
Services will be announced by the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
The memorial service for David Winfield Dixon will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Lee Hoskins will conduct the service. Mr. Dixon was cremated.
Mr. Dixon died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007, at his home in rural Emporia. He was 64.
The son of James Norman and Lida Mae Twedell Dixon, he was born Sept. 9, 1942, in Pittsburgh, Pa. He married Marianne Forrester on Dec. 19, 1987, at Las Vegas. She survives.
Mr. Dixon was a cost and scheduling engineer for Challenge Consultants and later worked for Detroit Diesel until he retired in 2002. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Seabees (Construction Battalions) in Vietnam and was also stationed at Little Creek, Va., Port Hueneme, Calif., Diego Garcia, Port Hueneme, Guam, Rota, Spain and Port Hueneme again before he was honorably discharged in 1980.
He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars Lowry-Funston Post 1980.
He is also survived by a daughter, Angela Wilson of Emporia; a son, Don Forrester, with the U.S. Navy in Bangor, Wash.; two brothers, James Norman Dixon of Beaver Falls, Pa., and Jack Dixon of Taylor, Mich.; one sister, Joanne Dixon Melder of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and one granddaughter, Teghan Therese Wilson of Emporia.
His parents and a sister, Delores, died earlier.
The family suggests that, instead of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the H. Dale Buck Animal Welfare Memorial Fund, the Emporia All Veterans Memorial or Hand in Hand Hospice and sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, P.O. Box 175, Emporia, KS 66801.
