Emporia native Malcolm Marion Jones of Bristol, Tenn., died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2007, at NHC Healthcare of Bristol, Tenn. He was 85.
Mr. Jones was president of Beecham Laboratories, U.S.A., in Bristol. He was a Navy Air Corps veteran of World War II, when he attained the rank of First Lieutenant and Airship Command Pilot in the 32nd Blimp Squadron.
The son of Malcolm W. and Edna Jones Jones, he was born Oct. 20, 1921, in Emporia. He attended Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy Air Corps.
He married Mary Evelyn Davis. She survives.
Mr. Jones was the secretary-treasurer of the Bristol Tennessee Industrial Board, chairman of the Bristol Regional Rehabilitation Center, chairman of the East Tennessee University Foundation and a member of the Bristol Chamber of Commerce.
He also is survived by one daughter, Terri Taylor of Pennsylvania; two sons, Steve Jones of Bristol, and Randy Jones of California; one sister, Melba Banion of Kansas; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The graveside service with military honors was held Monday in Rosean Cemetery, north of Emporia. The Rev. Mark Stukey conducted the service. The family met friends at the Akard Funeral Home in Bristol on Friday.
