Jess Howard Simpson died Sept. 3, 2007, at Alterra Sterling House of Emporia. He was 87.
Mr. Simpson was an over-the-road trucker until 2000, when he retired.
The son of William A. and Anna Kiser Simpson, he was born March 17, 1920, at Humboldt. He graduated from Yates Center High School and attended Pittsburg State College before he returned home to work.
He married Phyllis N. Barbour on Feb. 5, 1942, in Greensburg. She died Dec. 24, 2006.
Mr. Simpson was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Chanute.
He is survived by three sons, Donald W. Simpson and Steven L. Simpson, both of Strong City, and Howard L. Simpson of Kansas City, Mo.; two daughters, Elizabeth Ellen Welch of Buffalo and Barbara Ann Sigler of Burdick; 13 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Two sisters, Betty Bunner and Ellen Simpson, and one brother, Edwin Simpson, died earlier.
There will be no formal service. Mr. Simpson was cremated. The private family inurnment will be held at a later date. There is no designated memorial.
