Anthony J. Hurtig, Hartford
Anthony J. “Tony” Hurtig, 87, of Hartford died Friday, Aug. 31, 2007, at Newman Regional Health. He was 87.
In 1946, Mr. Hurtig, with his father and brother, started Hurtig Implement in Hartford; they were a dealership for John Deere farm equipment. In 1972, the dealership was moved south of Emporia on K-99 on what is now known as John Deere Road. The dealership was later closed. He served in the Army Air Corps in the South Pacific during World War II.
The son of Francis T. “Frank” and Christina M. Beschka Hurtig, he was born Aug. 25, 1920, at Hartford.
Mr. Hurtig was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hartford and the Knights of Columbus. He was a life member of American Legion Ball-McColm Post 5. He served on the South Lyon County school board during the time of school district consolidation in Lyon County.
He is survived by a brother, Francis E. Hurtig of Oro Valley, Ariz.; and a sister, Geraldine Gilbert of Hartford. A sister, Josephine Francis, died earlier.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hartford. The Rev. Anthony Williams will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, south of Hartford. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
