WICHITA
Emporia native Blas Joseph Rodriguez of Wichita died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, at Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita. He was 69.
Mr. Rodriguez worked at DuPont Paint in Fort Madison, Iowa, manufacturing paint for 25 years. He retired in 1997. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1956 to 1960.
The son of Anastacio and Reyes Torres Rodriguez, he was born Jan. 20, 1938, at Emporia. He graduated from Emporia High School in 1956.
He married Emma Jean, who died earlier. He married Roberta Scales on Oct. 9, 2004. She survives.
Mr. Rodriguez was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Wichita.
He is also survived by four brothers, Sylvester Rodriguez and Frank Rodriguez, both of Emporia, Joseph Rodriguez of Wichita and Tony Rodriguez of Oklahoma City, Okla.; three sisters, Marcelina Bruce and Florence Rodriguez, both of Emporia, and Julia Rodriguez of Midwest City, Okla.; and a stepsister, Mary Rodriguez of Emporia. Fidencio Rodriguez, Albert Rodriguez, Angel Rodriguez, Alfred Rodriguez, an infant brother and his stepmother, Nicolasa Rodriguez, died earlier.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. Darren Henson will be the celebrant. Burial, with services conducted by American Legion Ball-McColm Post 5 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Lowry-Funston Post 1980, will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church.
