Clara Viola Balding, Reading

1923 - 2007

The funeral for Clara Viola Balding of Reading will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Reading United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Osage City Cemetery at Osage City. The family will meet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home in Lebo.
Memorial contributions to the Reading United Methodist Church may be sent in care of the funeral home, 107 W. Sixth St., Lebo, KS 66856.
Mrs. Balding died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007, at Newman Regional Health. She was 84.
She worked at the Reading State Bank for 25 years before she retired in 1987. She previously worked at McCory McLelland Company in Emporia as a bookkeeper from 1953 to 1962. She also worked with her husband on the family homestead and was bookkeeper for their farm operations.
The daughter of Ernest and Clara M. Erickson Olson, she was born Nov. 8, 1923. She graduated from Osage City High School in 1942.
She married Herbert J. Balding onAug. 14, 1943. He died Oct. 28, 2004.
Mrs. Balding was a member of the Reading United Methodist Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Clara Roberts of Emporia and Carol Brock and Caren “Suzie” Loper, both of Topeka; one son, Russell “Herbie” Balding of Reading; one brother, Ronald E. Olson of Houston, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. A granddaughter, Marcy Loper, died earlier.
