Myron Lyndle Murray, Emporia

1935 - 2007

Myron Lyndle Murray of Emporia died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007, at the Flint Hills Care Center. He was 72.
Mr. Murray, a master electrician, owned and operated Murray Electric before he retired. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1959 as a submarine engineman.
The son of Leslie Elmer and Gladis “Sally” Ellen Benjamin Murray, he was born Sept. 3, 1935, at Kansas City, Kan. He married Muriel Dee Dodson in 1958. They were divorced in 1991.
Mr. Murray was a member of Hope Community Church and served in many positions, including delegate for the conference, member of the board, a trustee and Sunday school superintendent and was very involved with World Missions. He was instrumental in founding the Emporia Rescue Mission, served on the board of directors and donated to the facility. He was a longtime member of the National Model Railroad Association. He received several awards and recognitions for his model trains.
He is survived by two sons, Dan Murray of Americus and Paul Murray of Derby; one daughter, Lynde K. Murray-Wright of Borger, Texas; one brother, Gailen Murray of Gardner; three sisters, Evelyn Dean and Judy Crissier, both of Socorro, N.M., and Sue Shreves of Hot Springs, S.D.; and seven grandchildren.
The memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hope Community Church. The Rev. John Glennon of the Free Methodist Church of Rushville, Ill., and the Rev. Mike Knapp of Hope Community Church will conduct the service. Mr. Murray was cremated. Inurnment, with services conducted by American Legion Ball-McColm Post 5 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Lowry-Funston Post 1980, will be in Fruitland Cemetery, west of Americus.
