Irene F. Smith, Waverly

1914 - 2007

Irene F. Smith, a longtime resident of the Harris and Waverly communities, died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, at the Coffey County Hospital in Burlington. She was 93.
Mrs. Smith and her husband owned and operated the Lunch Box Café in Waverly for many years.
The daughter of George and Clara Williams Dearinger, she was born Feb. 3, 1914, in Iowa. She married Harry “Elmer” Smith on Dec. 8, 1931, at Waverly. He died April 25, 1975.
Mrs. Smith was a member of the Prairie View United Methodist Church.
She is survived by one son, Jerry Smith of Haslet, Texas; one daughter, Betty Trober of Raytown, Mo.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. One son, Bill Smith; two brothers, Ray and Ira Dearinger; and her longtime companion, Ben Fish, died earlier.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Waverly Methodist Church. Burial will be in Waverly Cemetery.
The family will meet friends from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the church.
