Esther M. Hernandez, Emporia

1922 - 2007

The Mass of Christian Burial for Esther M. Hernandez, 84, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emporia. The Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Darren Henson. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Emporia.
The prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Sacred Heart church. The family will receives friends after this service.
Mrs. Hernandez died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, at Emporia Presbyterian Manor.
The daughter of Manuel and Hilaria Hernandez Ramirez, Mrs. Ramirez was born Dec. 12, 1922, in Emporia. She married Yrineo Roman Hernandez on July 1, 1943, in Emporia. He died July 23, 1980.
Mrs. Hernandez was a homemaker and member of Emporia’s Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
She is survived by four sons, Manuel Hernandez and Robert Hernandez, both of Emporia, Irineo Hernandez of Topeka and Gilbert Hernandez of Des Allemands, La.; four daughters, Alice Thornton and Monica Wood, both of Emporia, Rachel Bachura of Wilsey and Irene Engeseth of Gary, S.D.; two brothers, Ernesto Ramirez of San Diego and Jose Ramirez of Fort Worth; four sisters, Naomi Hidalgo of Topeka, Rosa Dominquez of El Paso, Rachel Castaneda of Battle Ground, Wash., and Sarah Montoya of Albuquerque; 23 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Five brothers, Jesus, Roberto, Alfredo, Daniel and Salvador Ramirez, died earlier.
