Luella Beth Simmons, Allen
1912 - 2007
Allen native Luella Beth “Betty” Simmons of Wamego died Friday, Nov. 2, 2007, at Valley Vista Good Samaritan Center in Wamego. She was 95.
Mrs. Simmons, a certified nursing assistant, worked several years at Newman Memorial Hospital. She lived in Emporia from 1978 to 1998, when she moved to Wamego to be closer to her children.
The daughter of Harry W. and Elma L. Conrad Leavell, she was born Jan. 2, 1912, at Allen. She married Merle D. Simmons on Sept. 1, 1928, at Emporia. He died in 1975.
Mrs. Simmons was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wamego and a Sunday school teacher in Allen. She also was a member of the Ladies Aid Society and W.S.C.S., both in Allen.
She is survived by three daughters, Carol Bryson and Susan Partridge, both of Wamego, and Judith Boline of Gardner; three sons, Lawrence Simmons of Wichita, Bruce Simmons of Olney, Texas, and David Simmons of Blytheville, Ark.; 18 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren. An infant daughter, Martha Elizabeth Simmons, died earlier. Three sisters, Eva, Ima and Lucille; and three brothers, Llewelyn Leavell, Lee Leavell and Dale Leavell, also died earlier.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego. Burial will be in Allen Cemetery at Allen. Friends may call from 2 to 5:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
The family suggests that, instead of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Wamego Public Library, Heart of America Hospice or the First United Methodist Church of Wamego Building Fund and sent in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.
