Arthur George Pharriss

Arthur George Pharriss, formerly of Independence, Mo., died Saturday, May 26, 2007, at his home, 2102 W. 23rd Ave. He was 83.
Mr. Pharriss was a camera man in the printing department at the Federal Reserve Bank in Kansas City, Mo., for 34 years before he retired 21 years ago. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the 82nd Airborne. He was a prisoner of war in Germany. When he was younger, he raced cars.
The son of James Franklin and Willie Tillou Ford Pharriss, he was born Oct. 11, 1923, at Bunkie, La. He married Jane Ella Bates on Dec. 26, 1947, in Louisiana. She died Dec. 5, 2002, at Independence, Mo.
Mr. Pharriss is survived by one sister, Mary Anna Donaho of Natchitoches, La. Survivors in this area include a niece, Shirley McCloud of Emporia. A brother, James F. Pharriss, died earlier.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Provencal, La. Burial will be in Provencal Cemetery at Provencal, La. Friends may call until 9 p.m. today at the Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches, La.
