Donald Clyde Robinson, Burlington

BURLINGTON
Donald Clyde Robinson died Friday, May 18, 2007, at his home in Burlington of complications from leukemia. He was 72.
Mr. Robinson spent most of his life farming in Coffey County. He also sold hay to dealers from other states for many years and built fence throughout Coffey County with his lifelong friend, Melvin Birk. Earlier in life, he worked at Seymour’s in Topeka and helped his father farm in Coffey County.
The son of Lee and Hazel Cole Robinson, he was born Jan. 2, 1935, at Mulvane. The family moved to Burlington in 1948 where he graduated from Burlington High School in 1953. He was drafted into the Army in 1958 and returned to help on the farm after his honorable discharge in 1960.
He married Shirley Jean Marmon in 1963 at Garnett. She survives.
Mr. Robinson served on U.S.D. 244 board of education for 14 years. He was “Santa’s helper” for the Burlington Chamber of Commerce for many years and caretaker of the Pleasant Hill Cemetery for more than 40 years.
He is also survived by four daughters, July Otten of Burlington, Cathy Johnson of Lyndon, Sam Robinson of Junction City and Susan Davidson of Weston, Neb.;one sister, Evelyn Monroe of Topeka; and 10 grandchildren. One son, Donald Clyde Jr.; and a brother, Lee Robinson Jr., died earlier.
The memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m Friday at the Jones Funeral Home in Burlington.
