Earl Edward Sherffius
Earl Edward Sherffius, formerly of 723 W. Eighth Ave., died Friday, May 18, 2007, at Holiday Resort, where he was a resident. He was 92.
Mr. Sherffius was a signal man for the Santa Fe Railway in Emporia for 25 years before he retired 30 years ago. He served with the Army Air Corps from 1941 through 1945. He returned to Emporia in 1977 from Barstow, Calif.
The son of Edward and Blanche Pittman Sherffius, he was born Sept. 6, 1914, in Elmdale. He graduated from Burdick High School.
He married Sylvia Powell on Oct. 15, 1952, in Emporia. She died June 15, 1970, at Emporia.
Mr. Sherffius was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Emporia Memorial Post 7597.
He is survived by one daughter, Lana Daniel of Emporia; one son, Norman Dale Sherffius of Melbourne, Fla.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
One brother, John Sherffius, died earlier, as did two sisters, Gertrude Smith and Virginia Sherffius.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Patio Garden of Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The Rev. Lee Hoskins will conduct the service. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Lowry-Funston Post 1980 and American Legion Ball-McColm Post 5.
