Marvin O’Dell Mitchell

Marvin O’Dell Mitchell of 817 Sylvan St. died Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at Newman Regional Health. He was 84.
Mr. Mitchell, the son of Wardie P. and Maude Della Harrison Mitchell, was born March 31, 1923, in Manhattan. He married Elsie D. Toombs on March 1, 1950 in Richmond, Va. She survives.
Mr. Mitchell served in the U.S. Army, then worked for the Santa Fe Railway. For 26 years, he worked for the Emporia sanitation department, retiring Dec. 5, 1987.
Other survivors include one daughter, Narwetar Mitchell of Emporia; two sons, Scotty Mitchell of Emporia and Tony Burton of Colonial Heights, Va.; two sisters, Goldena Ray of Newton and Elsie Banks of Palmdale, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
A daughter, Theressa Mitchell, died earlier.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Michael Moore of St. James Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery.
