Former Emporian Martin Michael Honn, 49, died Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at his home in Pomona.
Mike Honn, the son of Martin and Lenora “Snooky” Humbert Honn, was born Oct. 19, 1957, in Garnett. After graduating from Garnett High School with the Class of 1976, he enrolled at Emporia State University, where he studied mathematics.
He married Rosemary Sweany on Feb. 11, 1978. They divorced.
From 1979 to 1997, Mr. Honn was a mail contractor for the Emporia Post Office. During that time, he published a Waverly newspaper from his home for two years; he also worked in computer repairs and sales and worked for COF Training Services in Ottawa.
In 2003, he returned to college to earn his teaching degree. After student teaching at Pomona High School, he taught in Dodge City and DeSoto. He was completing his first year teaching sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade math at West Franklin School District in Pomona, where he had been hired to teach again next year.
He is survived by his parents; a son, Richie M. Honn; and a brother, Eric Honn, all of Ottawa.
Visitation at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa is scheduled from 9 a.m. Thursday until the service, which begins at 2 p.m. Friday. The family will meet friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
