Louise G. Serna

Former Emporian Louise G. Serna, 85, of Topeka died Monday, May 14, 2007, at Midland Hospice in Topeka.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. in the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home and a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
Mrs. Serna had worked in the housekeeping department of Memorial Hospital until she retired.
Louise G. Gutierrez, the daughter of Feliciano and Lola Paul Gutierrez, was born Jan. 12, 1923, in Woodward, Okla. She married Lawrence G. Serna in 1956 in Emporia. He died in 2002.
Survivors include one son, Bobby Fernandez of Olathe; seven daughters, Joan Cedillo, Sonja Hernandez and Petra Fernandez, all of Emporia, Debbie Serna of San Diego, Calif., Laura Watson of Duncanville, Tex., Mercedes and Annette Serna, both of Topeka; three stepdaughters, Rita Dobrzynski of Fairlawn, N.J., Delores Zarazua of Bellwood, Ill., and Anita Mendoza of Brookfield, Ill.; one stepson, Larry Serna of Cooper City, Fla.; two brothers, Joel Gutierrez and Pablo Gutierrez, both of Emporia; 30 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
Three sisters, Frances Perez, Rebecca Delgado and Rachel Skalitzky, and two brothers, Pete and Manuel Gutierrez died earlier.
