Leonard M. Welborn

The funeral service for Leonard M. Welborn, 92, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. Mr. Welborn died Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at Emporia Presbyterian Manor. He had worked in the maintenance department at the former IBP plant.
The Rev. Mic McGuire, pastor of the Grace United Methodist Church, will conduct the funeral service. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, with Masonic services conducted by the Emporia Masonic Lodge #12, A.F. & A.M.
Leonard Marion Welborn, the son of Frank Harvey and Lillie May Dimick Welborn, was born Feb. 28, 1915, in Emporia. He married Sara Ann Cannon on Aug. 29, 1935, in Topeka. She died on Sept. 9, 1995.
Mr. Welborn also had worked on a Santa Fe Railway bridge crew, had owned a contracting and paint store in Topeka, and had worked for Thomas Transfer after retiring.
He had served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of Lowry-funston Post 1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion. He also was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, the Corinthian Masonic Lodge #79 in Burlingame, the Topeka Consistory of the Scottish Rite, the York Rite bodies, Topeka Arab Shrine, Shrine Band, and the Santa Fe Band.
He is survived by two sons, Ronald Welborn of North Ridgeville, Ohio, and Daryl Welborn of Alta Vista, eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. A brother, LaVois Welborn, preceded him in death.
