Charles Barlett
Charles Barlett, 71, died Thursday, May 10, 2007, at his home, 2514 Apple Drive. Mr. Barlett had retired two years ago after working for 16 years as an engineer at Vektek. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1953-1956.
The funeral service, conducted by the Rev. Allen Epp, will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the First Baptist Church, where Mr. Barlett was a member. A visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. on Sunday in Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements. Cremation is planned after the service. Charles Barlett, the son of Andrew and Georgia Ray Barlett, was born July 14, 1935, in El Dorado. He married Joan Vogelman on July 29, 1956, at DeGraff. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include one daughter, Suzie Barlett of Emporia; three sons, Ed Barlett of Liberty, Mo., Ben Barlett of Fenton, Mo., and Dan Barlett of Rose Hill; one brother, Tom Barlett of Topeka; two sisters, Carolyn Sue Ross of Charleston, S.C., and Martha Lou Wells of Houston, Texas; and eight grandchildren.
Mr. Barlett was a member in the Emporia Community Choir and the First Baptist Church Choir, the Emporia Arts Council, and the Jacomo Sailing Club in the Kansas City area, where he had lived before moving to Emporia in 1988.
