William Junior Duncan, Lebo

The funeral for William Junior Duncan is planned for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home in Lebo. Burial will be in the Gridley Cemetery at Gridley. Visitation is scheduled from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Bill Duncan died Saturday, May 5, 2007, at the Sunset Manor in Waverly. He was 79.
He was born Sept. 9, 1927, near Eureka, the son of Elias William and Anna May Showalter Duncan. During World War II, he served from 1944 to 1946 in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Zebra, a vessel charged with laying anti-submarine net in the Asian-Pacific Theater.
On March 3, 1945, he married Elsie Mercer Hoach. She died in 1984.
Mr. Duncan farmed in the Gridley area. In the mid-1950s, he worked in the oil fields throughout the Midwest. For 29 years, the Duncan family lived in Odessa, Texas, where Mr. Duncan was a co-owner of Duncan Erectors, a metal-building construction firm serving the Midland and Odessa area. The Duncans returned to Lebo in 1983. After retirement, he performed field work activities for area farmers.
He married Beverly Stallard Carlton in 1985 in Odessa. She survives, of the home.
Mr. Duncan was a member of the Lebo Baptist Church, the American Legion in Lebo and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Emporia.
He is also survived by a daughter, Julie Cox of Odessa; two sons, Floyd Duncan of Odessa and Marvin Duncan of Marble Falls, Texas; a stepdaughter, Neva Johnson of Lebo; and two stepsons, Tom Carlton of Mission Valley and David Carlton of Columbus, Kan. Five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren also survive.
A sister, Sevella Albert, and a brother, Alvin Duncan, died earlier.
Following Mr. Duncan’s wishes, the family requests memorials to the Lebo Baptist Church building fund, sent in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 43, Lebo, KS 66856.
