Dorothy L. Haughton, Madison
The graveside service for Dorothy L. Haughton will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Mount Hope Cemetery, east of Neosho Rapids. The family will meet friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the Wilson Funeral Home in Madison.
The family requests that, instead of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Neosho Rapids Senior Center and sent in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 488, Madison, KS 66860.
Mrs. Haughton, formerly of Madison, and known as “Aunt DoDO,” died Wednesday, May 2, at the Holiday Resort. She was 90.
She and her husband, “Chet,” moved to Madison in 1974, where she was a cook at the local restaurant and also worked at the Skelly Grocery Store. Earlier, she and her husband managed a Bohemian Hall in Detroit, Mich., where they moved in 1955. In 2003, Mrs. Haughton moved to Emporia.
The daughter of Curbie and Jenny Mae Shaw Peters, she was born July 20, 1916, at Harveyville. She grew up in the Neosho Rapids area, where she attended school. She married Sylvester “Chet” Haughton on Jan. 27, 1934, at Maydale. He died in August 1974.
Mrs. Haughton was a member of the Over 40 Club and Yuker Club in Detroit.
She is survived by one brother, Gerald Peters of Madison; and one sister, Helen Scott of Houston, Texas. Four brothers, Curbie Peters, Clayton Peters, Dick Peters and James Peters and one sister, Geraldine Williams, died earlier.
