Lila D. Tompkins, New Strawn

Lila D. Tompkins of New Strawn died Saturday, March 24, 2007, at the Life Care Center in Burlington. She was 78.
Mrs. Tompkins was a clerk at Duckwall’s and then Johnson Pharmacy, both in Burlington, for many years.
The daughter of Bertie Ivan and Bessie Lucille Austin Getz, she was born May 18, 1928, in Emporia. She grew up in Emporia and graduated from Emporia High School in 1946.
She married Roy Tompkins on Oct. 24, 1946, in Emporia. They moved to New Strawn in 1963. He survives.
Mrs. Getz is also survived by three sons, Bill Tompkins and Terry Tompkins, both of Burlington, and Ron Tompkins of Crete, Neb.; one brother, Calvin W. Getz of Albany, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Two sisters, Ruth Hornberger and Winifred Rice; and a brother, Donald Getz, died earlier.
The memorial service will be a 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Jones Funeral Home in Burlington. Mrs. Tompkins was cremated. Inurnment will be at Bowman-Adgate Cemetery at Burlington.
The family suggests that, instead of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Midland Hospice and sent in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 277, Burlington, KS 66839.
