Billy D. Carrier, Abilene

Strong City native Billy D. Carrier died Friday, March 23, 2007, at the Enterprise Estates in Abilene. He was 81.
Mr. Carrier worked for the Santa Fe Railroad from 1949 until he retired in August 1987 as an engineer. In June 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the South Pacific, including the invasion of Iwo Jima. He was discharged in December 1945.
The son of Elmer and Mildred Taylor Carrier, he was born Oct. 8, 1925, in Strong City. He graduated from Salina High School in 1943. He married Geneva Cramer on Dec. 16, 1946.
Mr. Carrier was a member of the Methodist Church and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by two daughters, Kelly Rock and Linda Kolaeny, both of Abilene; two sons, Gary Eugene Carrier of Olathe and Terrance Dale Carrier of San Antonio, Texas; one brother, Ray Carrier of Salina; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his companion, Audrey Clark of Abilene.
The graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Abilene Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Danner Funeral Home in Abilene.
