Lenora May Cooper
Former Emporian Lenora May Cooper died Thursday, March 22, 2007, at Aldersgate Village in Topeka. She was 91.
Mrs. Cooper, an elementary teacher for 43 years, taught in Missouri and Kansas, including Kanorado, Lebo and 18 years at East Avondale and Crestview schools in Topeka.
The daughter of George and Margaret Newham Temple, she was born July 31, 1915, at Stet, Mo. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia.
She was married to Charles Miller for 27 years. He died in 1960. She married Ivan A. Cooper in 1962. He died Sept. 15, 2006.
Mrs. Cooper was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Yomac Sunday school class. She also was a member of local and state teachers’ associations, the American Association of University Women, P.E.O. Sisterhood, Primetimers, Phylomathean Club and Delta Kappa Gamma.
She is survived by one daughter, Marilyn Miller Quinn of Holton; three stepchildren, Kathy Kroupa of Tampa, Dennis Cooper of Hutchinson and Kipp Cooper of Salina; one granddaughter; 10 stepgrandchildren; and 15 stepgreat-grandchildren. Two brothers, Gilbert Temple and Carl Temple, and two sisters, Frances Gentry and Delores Byerly, died earlier.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel in Topeka. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery at Topeka. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
