Myrtle S. Hainline

The graveside service for Myrtle S. Hainline of Cottonwood Falls will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Prairie Grove Cemetery in rural Cottonwood Falls. The Rev. Pat Ireland will conduct the service. Friends may call from noon until 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls. The coffin will remain closed.
Memorial contributions to the First Presbyterian Church in Cottonwood Falls may be sent in care of the funeral home, 201 Cherry, Cottonwood Falls, KS 66845.
Mrs. Hainline died Sunday, March 11, 2007, at the Golden Living Center of Chase County in Cottonwood Falls. She was 99.
She and her husband, Menzo Hainline operated newspapers in Kingman and Monett, Mo. Later, they covered “newspaper owners’ vacation time” for many newspapers, including the Chase County Leader News. Before her marriage, she taught English in the Marion school district. She taught a three-year Bible course before she moved to Chase County.
The daughter of Emmitt and Myrtle Barnes Shircliff, she was born Nov. 30, 1907, at Hutchinson. She graduated from Southwest College in Winfield with a bachelor’s degree in education.
She married Menzo Forest Hainline on July 7, 1932, at Hutchinson. He died Sept. 4, 1993.
Mrs. Hainline was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Cottonwood Falls and Presbyterian Women. She also was the church organist and on her 90th birthday, played for church services. She was secretary to the Northern Kansas Presbytery and president of the Southern Kansas Presbytery where she was given an honorary membership. She also was a member of the Justamere Study Club, Priscilla Club and the American Association of University Women.
She is survived by a son, Phillip Hainline of Americus; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. A daughter, Ann Talarico died in 2005. A brother, Edward Shircliff, also died earlier.
