Marvin G. Sharp, St. George
Former area resident Marvin G. Sharp of St. George died Sunday, March 11, 2007, at Colmery O’Neil Veterans Administration Medical Center in Topeka. He was 84.
Mr. Sharp was a general contractor in the construction industry for many years. He lived in Olpe and Junction City before he moved to St. George in 1976. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the European Theater during World War II.
The son of Scott and Eva D. Spain Sharp, he was born Aug. 2, 1922, at Circleville. He grew up in Junction City and Emporia where he attended the local schools and graduated from Emporia High School.
He married Marguerite A. Bolz on May 8, 1943, at Fort Riley. She survives.
Mr. Sharp was a member of the Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Manhattan. He also was a member of the Black Jack American Legion Post in St. George and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Wamego.
He is also survived by three sons, Tom Sharp of Oakley, Dennis Sharp of Holcomb and Wayne Sharp of Red Oak, Texas; one daughter, Linda Glanzer of St. George; one brother, Don Sharp of Emporia; 10 grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 16 stepgreat-grandchildren. One brother, Kenneth Sharp; two halfsisters, Lois Miller and Lola Davidson; and a grandson, Timothy Sharp, died earlier.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Seven Dolors Catholic Church at Manhattan. Burial, with military honors, will be in St. George Cemetery at St. George. The rosary and vigil service will be at 7 p.m. today at the Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home in Manhattan.
