Eleanor Louthan Burenheide
Eleanor Burenheide, 2232 Mount Vernon Terrace, died Sunday, March 11, 2007, at the Holiday Resort Care Center. She was 75.
Mrs. Burenheide was a home economics teacher at Emporia High School for 25 years before she retired 26 years ago.
The daughter of John and Katherine Martens Louthan, she was born Oct. 10, 1931, at Rising City, Neb. She graduated from Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia with a bachelor’s degree.
She married Wayne Bartley at Lincoln, Neb. He died in 1959. She married Leo Burenheide on May 28, 1962, at Emporia. He survives.
Mrs. Burenheide was a member of the Lyon County Quilters Guild and traveled around the state with the Kansas Quilt Project of the Kansas Historical Society. She also was a member of the Kaw Valley Bicycle Club and the Kansas Farmers Union.
She is also survived by one son, Keith Bartley of Emporia; one daughter, Nancy Kossler of Topeka; two brothers, Gerald Louthan of Lake Elsinore, Calif., and Marvin Louthan of Lincoln, Neb.; and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home chapel. The graveside service will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Abilene Cemetery at Abilene. The family will meet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
