Mary Alice Theiss, Madison

The graveside service for former Madison resident Mary Alice Theiss of Overland Park will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Evergreen Cemetery, south of Emporia. The Rev. Bob Robison of Madison will conduct the service.
The family suggests that, instead of flowers, memorial contributions be made to a fund to be designated later and sent in care of the Wilson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 488, Emporia, KS 66860.
Mrs. Theiss died Friday, March 2, 2007, at St. Joseph Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. She was 101.
She taught for several years before her marriage, then lived in Shawnee Mission until her husband retired. They moved to Madison in 1975, where she lived until 1991 when she moved to Overland Park.
The daughter of John C. and Carrie Hughes Jones, she was born March 9, 1905, at Tonganoxie. She graduated from Emporia High School and the Normal School in Emporia, where she received a teaching certificate.
She married Harry Herman Theiss on Sept. 27, 1931, at Emporia. He died Dec. 28, 1989.
Mrs. Theiss attended the First Presbyterian Church in Madison. She was a member of the Sertoma Club in Mission.
She is survived by one son, John Theiss of Elephant Butte, N. M.; three grandchildren; and several great-grand and great-great-grandchildren. Three brothers and one sister died earlier.
