Robert Lee Chambers Sr.
Robert Lee Chambers Sr. died Friday, June 29, 2007, at his home, 1010 East St. He was 69.
Mr. Chambers worked at IBP for 16 years, then operated Chambers Rolling Rib Cage for eight years. Most recently, he worked at Dairy Delight. He served in the U.S. Army.
The son of the Rev. Wardell Allen and Hazel Ella Smith Chambers, he was born April 4, 1938, at Humboldt. He was married and divorced.
Mr. Chambers was a member of St. James Baptist Church, the Latin Exposure Car Club, the Black Enterprise Car Club and American Legion Ball-McColm Post 5.
He is survived by two sons, Robert Lee Chambers Jr. of Emporia and Steve L. Chambers of Olpe; two daughters, Rochelle L. Chambers and Mary A. Richardson, both of Emporia; one brother, Don Chambers of Wichita; three sisters, Kathy Hawkins of Emporia, Wanda Marshall of Lawrence and Betty Chambers of Topeka; 10 grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; and “too many great-grandchildren to list,” the family said. Two sisters, Anita Coats and Ruth Chambers, died earlier.
The memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. The Rev. Chester Morris of the Church of the New Covenant will conduct the service. Military honors at the funeral home will be presented by American Legion Ball-McColm Post 5.
