Gary Leland Walker, Olathe

OLATHE
Former Emporian Gary Leland Walker of Olathe died Monday, June 25, 2007, at Bolivar, Mo. He was 49.
Mr. Walker was a music and youth minister for more than 20 years in Arizona and Kansas and was presently employed at Word Tech of Shawnee Mission.
The son of Eugene H. and Velma Payne Walker, he was born June 26, 1957, in Clay Center. He graduated from Emporia High School in 1975 and Manhattan Christian College in 1980 with a bachelor’s degree in Bible and music.
Mr. Walker was a member of the First Baptist Church in Overland Park.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Hovorka Walker; four daughters, Allison Walker of the home, Amber Alt of Shawnee, Ashley Walker of Edwardsville and Andrea Walker of Olathe; his parents of Emporia; a brother, Darrel Walker of Guadalajara, Mexico; four sisters, Rhonda Schmidt of Emporia; Pam Martin of Overland Park, Marla Rieder of Stow, Ohio, and Julie Norton of Siesta Key, Fla.; and one grandchild.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Overland Park. The Rev. Andy Currier of the church and the Rev. Robert Hovorka of Outreach Christian Church in Smithville, Mo., will conduct the service. The family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.
The family suggests that, instead of flowers, memorial contributions for the Allison Walker College Fund be sent to Velma Walker, 545 Road 140, Emporia, KS 66801 with checks made payable to Learning Quest, put in check memo: #639-600000003 for Allison Walker; the other memorial is to the First Baptist Church, 8200 W. 96th St., Overland Park, KS 66212 with G. Walker Fund in the check memo.
