Roberta H. Keller, Ocena Grove, N.J.
Former Emporian Roberta H. Keller died Saturday, May 19, 2007. She was 90.
Mrs. Keller was a teacher for more than 30 years. She and her family lived in several states and countries because of her husband’s military career as an Army band leader. She also worked in a women’s dress shop in El Paso, Texas. For the past 16 years she had lived with her daughter in Ocean Grove, N.J.
She was born and reared in Emporia. She received a life teaching certificate from Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia.
Mrs. Keller was a member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Ocean Grove. She was a volunteer at Jersey Shore University Medical Center Neo-Natal Unit for many years and for Meals on Wheels, Ocean Grove.
She is survived by a daughter, Judy Keller of Ocean Grove; a son, Jack Keller of Joplin, Mo.; a sister, Ruth Downing of Emporia; a brother, William Bixler of Denver, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Survivors in Emporia also include her sister-in-law, Wilma Bixler.
Her husband of 50 years, Percy Allen Keller, died in 1986. A son, Jerry Keller, died in 1997.
The funeral was held at the Orender Family Home for Funerals in Manasquan, N.J. Burial will be at a later date in Fort Bliss Cemetery at El Paso, Texas.
