Fernando Hernandez

Fernando Hernandez, 2233 W. 23rd Ave., died Friday, June 15, 2007, at the Harry Hynes Hospice Center at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita. He was 81.
Mr. Hernandez worked for IBP for 20 years before he retired in 1986. He previously worked for Burlington Northern Railroad for five years and at the El Milagro Tortilla Factory in Chicago, Ill., for 10 years.
The son of Guadalupe Hernandez Nava and Maria Antonia Hernandez Hernandez, he was born Dec. 11, 1925, in La Hermita de los Correa, Zacatecas, Mexico. He married Manuela Miranda on Feb. 5, 1949, at Zacatecas, Mexico. She died April 19, 2001, at Jerez, Zacetecas, Mexico.
Mr. Hernandez was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church.
He is survived by six daughters, Maria Sylvia, Alma H. Garza and Maria Avoceli, all of Emporia, Bianca Estela Mata of San Antonio, Texas, Maria Gloria of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Maria Antonia of Chicago, Ill.; three sons, Guadalupe Hernandez of California, Fernando Hernandez Jr. and Jose Antonio Hernandez, both of San Antonio, Texas; one brother, Manuel Hernandez of La Hermita de los Correa, Zacatecas, Mexico; one sister, Ofelia Huizar of Santa Monica, Calif.; 27 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Two sons, Javier Hernandez and Fernando Hernandez Jr. and one daughter, Ofelia Hernandez, died earlier, as did two sisters and one brother.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. Darren Henson will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Memorial contributions to Sacred Heart Catholic Church may be sent in care of the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
