June C. Talkington, Matfield Green

The service to celebrate the life of June Calvin Talkington will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Flint Hills Community Church in Cottonwood Falls. The Rev. Jim Bartsch and the Rev. John Ratzlaff will conduct the service. Burial, with military honors conducted by a Fort Riley honor guard, will be in Matfield Green Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Friends may call at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday and after 5 p.m. at the church.
Memorial contributions to the Flint Hills Community Church or Hand in Hand Hospice may be sent in care of the funeral home, 201 Cherry St., Cottonwood Falls, KS 66845.
Mr. Talkington died Sunday, June 10, 2007, at his home in Matfield Green. He was 79.
He was a longtime farmer and rancher. He helped with the livestock shows during the Chase County Fair and served on 4-H committees. He was a member of the Pork Producers and served on the watershed board. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
The son of Ralph Kenneth and Margaret Mockry Talkington, he was born Jan. 10, 1928, in Matfield Green. He married Phyllis Mae Kewley on Feb. 27, 1966, at the Grace United Methodist Church in Emporia. She survives.
Mr. Talkington was a member of the Flint Hills Community Church in Cottonwood Falls.
He is also survived by one son, William D. Talkington of Matfield Green; two daughters, Mary Anne Quay and Shelley Chiasson, both of Matfield Green; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Four brothers died earlier, Harold Talkington, Charles Talkington, Wilbur Talkington and Merton Talkington.

Survivors of June C. Talkington include two brothers, Donald Talkington and Eugene Talkington, both of Matfield Green; and two stepgrandchildren.
Burial, with services conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Lowry-Funston Post 1980 and American Legion Ball-McColm Post 5, will be in Matfield Green Cemetery.
