Mary C. Turner

Mary C. Turner, formerly of 27 Mechanic St., died Monday, June 11, 2007, at the Holiday Resort care center. She was 87.
Mrs. Turner was an assistant manager at Peter Pan Ice Cream on Commercial Street and, later, a cashier at Reeble’s South for 25 years before she retired May 31, 1984. She also was a homemaker.
The daughter of Fred W. and Julia Schaefer Hotzel, she was born July 12, 1919, in Emporia. She married Walter Robert Turner on Feb. 15, 1942, in Emporia. He died Sept. 11, 1995, at Emporia.
Mrs. Turner was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
She is survived by four sons, Michael Turner, Terry Turner and Steven Turner, all of Emporia, and Roger Turner of Olathe; one daughter,
Susan Cocca of Riverside, Calif.; one brother, Carl Hotzel of Emporia; two sisters, Rosalie Edmiston of Americus and Sarah Brown of Olpe; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
One son, Donald Turner, seven brothers and two sisters died earlier.
The graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. The Rev. Tim Haberkorn of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Olpe will conduct the service. The family will meet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home chapel.
