Daniel S. Godfrey, Hamilton

Daniel S. Godfrey of Hamilton died Saturday, May 26, 2007, at Newman Regional Health. He was 84.
Mr. Godfrey farmed and was a carman for the railroad before he retired.
The son of Samuel W. and Gladys A. Ellis Godfrey, he was born Sept. 12, 1922, at Hartford. He married Alma L. Dicks on June 1, 1952, at Emporia. She survives.
Mr. Godfrey was a member of the Virgil Methodist Church of Hamilton.
He is also survived by one son, Warren Godfrey of Overland Park; one daughter, Diana J. Shirley of Topeka; one sister, Mary I. Stead of Emporia; seven grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. A brother, Warren Godfrey, died earlier.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Charter Funerals - Emporia Chapel. The burial service will be at the Patio Garden in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
The family suggests that, instead of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Rural Fire Department of Virgil or the Hamilton Fire Department and sent in care of the funeral home, 501 W. Sixth Ave., Emporia, KS 66801.

Daniel S. Godfrey’s survivors include one son, Darrell Godfrey of Shawnee. The incorrect name was given in the obituary published Tuesday.
