Beatrice Isabel Godfrey, Waverly

WAVERLY
Beatrice Isabel Godfrey died Sunday, July 22, 2007, at the Sunset Manor in Waverly. She was 90.
Mrs. Godfrey and her husband, John Godfrey, owned a farm. Earlier, she taught school for five years.
The daughter of John A. and Margaret Hazel Danford Hitchens, she was born Oct. 31, 1916, at Saffordville. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1933. After high school, she received a teaching certificate from the Normal School to teach grades one through eight. She attended summer school at Emporia State University.
She married John Godfrey on Oct. 30, 1938, at Neosho Rapids. He died March 4, 1990.
Mrs. Godfrey was a member of the Lebo Baptist Church, the American Baptist Women and the Tuesday A.M. Prayer Breakfast. She taught Sunday school for many years. She also was a member of the Sunflower Home Demonstration Unit and Neighborhood Card Club.
She is survived by four sons, John E. Godfrey of Burlington, Kenneth Godfrey of Melvern, Kenton Godfrey of Olathe and Keith Godfrey of Rockwall, Texas; one daughter, Kathleen Means of Clarinda, Iowa; two sisters, Thelma Sullivan of Lebo and Doris Brown of Topeka; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Lebo Baptist Church. Burial will be in Key West cemetery in Coffey County. The family will meet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the jones VanArsdale Funeral Home.
