Robert M. McKinzie, Virgil

Robert M. “Bud” McKenzie died Sunday, July 22, 2007, at his home in Virgil. He was 69.
Mr. McKenzie started the Madison Insurance Agency in 1990 where he sold insurance until he died. Earlier, he was a school administrator until he retired in 1974. He ran the family farm until 1985.
The son of Arthur and Elizabeth Boone McKenzie, he was born March 28, 1938, in Eureka. He graduated from Tonovay High School in 1956 and received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Emporia State University and his doctorate of education from the University of Kansas.
He married Julie Harris on Jan. 22, 1958, at Emporia. She survives.
Mr. Mckenzie was a member of the Lamont Wesleyan Church. He was a past member of the Madison Lions Club, member of Greenwood County Economic Development and the Quad County Facilitation Project.
He is also survived by four sons, Trent McKenzie of Wichita, Todd McKenzie of Woodland Hills, Calif., Tracy McKenzie of Youngsville, N.C., and Travis McKenzie of Fort Collins, Colo.; two sisters, Shirley Gulick of Olpe and Margaret Lilley of Albuquerque, N.M.; and 13 grandchildren.
One brother, Gayle McKenzie, died earlier.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Lamont Wesleyan Church in Lamont. The Rev. Steve McVey will conduct the service. Burial will be in Virgil Cemetery at Virgil.
The family suggests that, instead of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the church, Hand in Hand Hospice or Victory in the Valley Cancer Support Group and sent in care of the Wilson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 488, Madison, KS 66860.
