Harry Bernard Beust, Miller
Harry Bernard Beust of Miller died Thursday, July 19, 2007, at the Osage Nursing Center . He was 78.
Mr. Beust worked in the lumber business in Kansas City, Mo., until 1963 when he moved to Manhattan and was a lumber sales representative in the surrounding area until he retired in 1984. He moved to Miller and was a toll booth operator for the Kansas Turnpike Authority until he retired in 1990. He served in the U.S. Army in Japan from 1950 to 1952 during the Korean War.
The son of Otto and Mary Reise Fredrick Beust, he was born Nov. 29, 1928, in Louisville, Ky., where he spent his early childhood with his mother. He moved to Marysville to live with his aunt and uncle. He graduated from Marysville High School in 1947, where he was active in track and football and played saxophone in the band. He also played saxophone in dance bands and at weddings on weekends.
He married Alberta Walker on June 17, 1956, at Liberty, Mo. She survives.
Mr. Beust was a member of the Miller United Methodist Church where he also was a church trustee and member of the Lord’s Herd Committee. He was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Manhattan. He was a member of American Legion Ball-McColm Post 5 in Emporia and former member of the Lumbermen Association of Kansas City and Kansas.
He is also survived by one daughter, Mary Wiley of Emporia; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Miller United Methodist Church. The burial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Kansas City, Kan. The family will meet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the VanArsdale Funeral Chapel in Osage City.
