Emmitt T. Longan, Council Grove

Emmitt T. Longan died Wednesday, July 4, 2007, at his home in Council Grove. He was 74.
Mr. Longan retired from Civil Service after 25 years of service, then was a contract manager for Doss Aviation. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve.
The son of Emmitt T. Sr. and Eddie F. Maness Longan, he was born Oct. 28, 1932, in White City. He graduated from White City High School in 1950. He married Delpha Ziegenhirt on Dec. 22, 1951, at Parkerville. She survives.
Mr. Longan was a member of the First Baptist Church in Council Grove. He also was a member of American Legion Frederick Phillips Post 121 in Council Grove and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10061 in New Jersey.
He is also survived by two daughters, Deborah Schartz of Emporia and Allicia Wessel of Council Grove; three sisters, Geraldine Weeks of Herington, Leona Hewitt of Cornelius, Ore., and Bessie Lynch of Coalings, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Council Grove. The private family inurnment will at a later date.
