Elizabeth Ann Gasche, Hartford
Elizabeth Ann Gasche of Hartford died Tuesday, July 3, 2007, at Newman Regional Health. She was 80.
Mrs. Gasche was a professional cake decorator for 41 years. With her husband, Dan, she also farmed, had a cow-calf herd and stocker-feeder operation. She taught school before her marriage.
The daughter of Adam and Lura Thornton Haughton, she was born July 6, 1926, in rural Madison. She grew up in the Maydale community and graduated from Emporia High School in 1943.
She married Daniel G. Gasche on May 9, 1945, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Maydale. He survives.
Mrs. Gasche was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the church altar societies. She also was an active member of the Eagle Creek extension unit and the Bluestem Cowbelles. She was one of the founding leaders of Busy Beavers 4-H Club, a project leader of the Lyon County dog project and a dog breeder, along with being a Kansas State Fair dog-show judge.
She is also survived by one daughter, Cindy Richard of Olpe; two sons, Gregg Gasche of Hartford and Dan Gasche of Minburn, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A brother, Vernon Haughton, died earlier.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Madison. The Rev. Mike Klag will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Maydale Cemetery, south of Olpe. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at the Wilson Funeral Home in Madison.
The family suggests that, instead of flowers, memorial contributions be made to St. Teresa Catholic Church or the Hoosier Creek Community Center Building Fund and sent in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 488, Madison, KS 66860.
