Jerry D. Sloan, Lebo
Jerry D. Sloan of Lebo died Saturday, June 30, 2007, at the Flint Hills Care Center in Emporia. He was 85.
Mr. Sloan was a rural mail carrier for 33 years and a retired dairy farmer. He also worked part time in construction and in his neighbor’s coal pits. In later years, he was active in the family horse-racing business. He lived his entire life on the family farm.
The son of Charles Ray and Margaret Jane Evans Sloan, he was born on Jan. 20, 1922, on the family farm. He graduated from Lebo High School in 1940.
He married Iris N. Knight on Feb. 11, 1947, at Lebo. She survives.
Mr. Sloan was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lebo. He also was a member of the Rural Letter Carriers Association.
He is also survived by one son, Gregory Sloan of Lebo; two daughters, Shirley Claas of Seneca and Gloria Patterson of Melvern; a sister, Patricia Wamser of Emporia; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
One brother, David Sloan, and two sisters, Mamie Nimmo and Betty Peterson, died earlier.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Lebo Baptist Church. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery at Lebo. The family will meet friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home in Lebo.
