Virgil Harold Bell, Prescott Vallley, Ariz

Former Emporian Virgil Harold Bell of Prescott Valley, Ariz., died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007, at Prescott. He was 100.
Mr. Bell, a 60-year resident of Emporia, was a baker and in his later years, a custodian for the Emporia school district. He served in the U.S. Army in the early 1930s and with the Navy Seabees during World War II.
The son of Runey Lawrence and Ada Frances Meadows Bell, he was born Jan. 7, 1907, at Mount Pulaski, Ill. He married Eula Baker Amick on June 2, 1936, at Emporia. She died March 10, 1997, at Prescott, Ariz.
Mr. Bell was a former member of the Odd Fellows, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7957, Elder Citizens and Garden Club. He sold fruit and vegetables from his garden at his home on W. Sixth Avenue for many years and prized the two awards he won for “Lawn of the Month.”
He is survived by one daughter, LaVon E. McGlinn of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Four brothers; one sister; one half brother; and one grandson died earlier.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. The Rev. Nancy Gammill of the First United Methodist Church will conduct the service. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
